Direct Observation of Ferroelectric Domains in LiTaO3 Using Environmental Scanning Electron Microscopy
نویسندگان
چکیده
Direct observation of ferroelectric domain structures in LiTaO3 crystal, without etching or surface coating, has been realized by using environmental scanning electron microscopy in secondary electron emission mode. The new method can nondestructively provide domain contrast image at submicron resolution, and the domain contrast image is very stable. Conditions for best domain contrast of LiTaO3 crystals have been established. [S0031-9007(97)04101-X]

Imaging of 180 Ferroelectric Domains in LiTaO3 by Means of Scanning Electron Microscopy
The 180 ferroelectric domains, engineered through field poling in single crystalline LiTaO3 were directly observed by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) on its polished polar surfaces without metal coating. Two kinds of domain images, the brightness-contrast image and topographic-boundary image, were found with slow scan rate under the condition of a cathode voltage of V0 = 3 to 5 kV a...
متن کاملDirect Observation of Multiferroic Vortex Domains in YMnO3
Topological vortices with swirling ferroelectric, magnetic and structural anti-phase relationship in hexagonal RMnO3 (R = Ho to Lu, Y, and Sc) have attracted much attention because of their intriguing behaviors. Herein, we report the structure of multiferroic vortex domains in YMnO3 at atomic scale using state-of-the-art aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). Two...
متن کاملPolar Oxide Interface Characterization by Differential Phase Contrast STEM
Understanding the atomic-scale structure of surfaces and interfaces is essential to control the functional properties of many materials and devices. Recent advances in aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) have made possible the direct characterization of localized atomic structure in ceramic materials, especially grain boundaries and heterointerfaces. In STEM, a...
متن کاملCharge gradient microscopy.
Here we present a simple and fast method to reliably image polarization charges using charge gradient microscopy (CGM). We collected the current from the grounded CGM probe while scanning a periodically poled lithium niobate single crystal and single-crystal LiTaO3 thin film on the Cr electrode. We observed current signals at the domains and domain walls originating from the displacement curren...
متن کاملDirect observation of ferroelectric domain switching in varying electric field regimes using in situ TEM.
In situ Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) techniques can potentially fill in gaps in the current understanding interfacial phenomena in complex oxides. Select multiferroic oxide materials, such as BiFeO(3) (BFO), exhibit ferroelectric and magnetic order, and the two order parameters are coupled through a quantum-mechanical exchange interaction. The magneto-electric coupling in BFO allows c...
